The 2024 RISC-V Summit China has concluded successfully, bringing together RISC-V International, over a hundred leading enterprises, research institutions, and developers from around the globe. This summit was a platform for discussing the latest advancements and future directions in RISC-V technology, showcasing innovative developments, sharing application case studies, and exploring future collaboration opportunities—all contributing to the growth and expansion of the RISC-V ecosystem.
As a sponsor of the Hong Kong RISC-V Day + AI CON, DeepComputing proudly presented several groundbreaking products, including the world’s first RISC-V laptop, the DC-ROMA RISC-V Laptop II, the DC-ROMA RISC-V Pad II running Ubuntu Desktop 24.04, and the world’s first RISC-V mainboard compatible with the Framework Laptop 13. These events provided an opportunity to highlight our latest achievements in RISC-V technology to developers worldwide.

Our DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard for the Framework Laptop 13 garnered significant attention. This cutting-edge mainboard will soon be announced on the Framework and the DeepComputing website. Stay tuned to our websites for the latest updates.
As a related event to the RISC-V Summit China, Hong Kong RISC-V Day + AI CON was held on August 24, 2024, at City University of Hong Kong. The event brought together leading global technology experts, scholars, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss how the RISC-V architecture can enable efficient intelligent computing and drive innovation in artificial intelligence.
Yuning Liang, DeepComputing’s founder and CEO, was invited to speak at the event, where he delivered a speech titled “Empowering the Future: Unveiling Next-Generation RISC-V Devices.” He also showcased the RISC-V ecosystem products developed by DeepComputing under his leadership, engaging in discussions on the development and future of the RISC-V industry.

The event also invited a special guest, Peter Membrey, Chief Engineer at ExpressVPN, the world’s leading VPN company, who is a dedicated supporter of DeepComputing. Peter shared his thoughts on the importance of RISC-V and how it stands out to revolutionize the way we think about computing hardware in the same way that open source changed how we think about software. During the event, Yuning Liang presented Peter Membrey with the upgraded DC-ROMA Laptop II, highlighting their shared commitment to realizing the potential of the RISC-V industry.

While the RISC-V Summit China was taking place in Hangzhou, KubeCon made its debut in Hong Kong, co-hosted by CNCF and the Linux Foundation. Yuning was invited to the Linux Kernel Meetup, where he shared his insights on the RISC-V and Linux industry.
At the meetup, Yuning presented the world’s first RISC-V laptop and the upgraded DC-ROMA laptop II to Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, and Greg Kroah-Hartman, a renowned kernel maintainer and Linux Foundation Fellow.
Linus observed that the current state of RISC-V hardware is highly fragmented, which has slowed the development of the software ecosystem, leading to a slow upstream process for projects like the Linux kernel. He emphasized that for the software ecosystem to mature more quickly, there needs to be a standardized hardware platform that continuously iterates and develops, similar to the evolution of x86, rather than repeating the mistakes of ARM. Greg expressed excitement about the development of RISC-V and committed to pushing for better upstream support in the Linux kernel for RISC-V-related hardware. He also expressed willingness to participate in chip design discussions if invited. DeepComputing stated that it will increase investment in building standardized hardware platforms and accelerate the upstream work related to Linux kernels, particularly for the Framework DIY laptop mainboard.

The RISC-V China Summit has successfully concluded, but our innovation in the RISC-V field continues. Next, we will be heading to the RISC-V North America Summit, where we look forward to discussing the latest developments with more RISC-V developers.
