This year’s UbuCon Asia 2025 was held for the first time in Nepal, and it was an unforgettable experience, and the local community rolled out the red carpet with incredible warmth and hospitality. Attendees were not only captivated by the stunning surroundings but also deeply impressed by the Nepalese community’s profound passion for technology, particularly in the realms of open hardware and local innovation. This new location infused the conference with a fresh, energetic vibe and highlighted the global and diverse nature of the Ubuntu and open-source family.


A definite highlight of the event was the electrifying Mainboard Swap Challenge. The atmosphere was tense and exciting as participants raced against the clock to expertly disassemble and reassemble computer motherboards. The crowd cheered on the competitors, showcasing the community’s love for hands-on hardware hacking.


A massive congratulations to the winner, Krish Pradhan, who blazed through the challenge with a breathtaking time of 4 minutes and 17.75 seconds! Krish deservedly took home the fantastic grand prize: a DC-ROMA Mini PC. The challenge was a brilliant demonstration of practical skill and a huge crowd-pleaser.



One of the most informative and insightful sessions was delivered by Joey Zeng. Joey’s comprehensive talk, followed by a lightning talk, demystified the RISC-V architecture for the audience. She provided a clear vision of its potential to shape the future of open-source computing and its synergy with the Ubuntu ecosystem. Her expertise left attendees with a much deeper understanding of this pivotal technology and its implications for developers and users alike.


At its core, UbuCon Asia 2025 was about unity. The event served as a powerful gathering point for contributors, developers, enthusiasts, and newcomers from across Asia and beyond. Every conversation, session, and workshop was a step forward in our shared mission: to collaborate and drive the growth of the open-source and Ubuntu communities.
